Meet the Executive Team
Sam Forouzan (Founder and Executive President) and Angela Pham (VP)
Steps Ahead was founded in 2024 by Sam, a first-generation Iranian American. Growing up with a deep awareness of how displacement, poverty, and crisis can shape a child’s life. From family stories to personal experience, they saw the emotional and material toll on children who lacked support, especially those in refugee communities or recovering from domestic trauma.

Both started by donating toys and books to shelters housing refugee and trafficked youth, however, it quickly became something bigger. After running our first project where we delivered over 60 toys, distributed 200+ books, and used a Target grant to provide 80+ hygiene kits and school supply bundles, the impact was clear: these small steps forward were changing lives. Messages from children and shelter staff poured in, sharing how the donations made their home life more bearable, dignified, and hopeful.

That was the spark. Sam created Steps Ahead as a youth-led nonprofit to ensure no child is overlooked when it comes to preparedness, support, and belonging. Today, Steps Ahead champions inclusive emergency preparedness and culturally-informed aid, pairing grassroots relief efforts with youth mentorship and advocacy.

Steps ahead envisions a world where every child, regardless of their background, has the support, tools, and confidence to take steps toward a brighter future.
